NC Triad’s Critter Caravan’s-Mobile Education Program
We bring the field trip straight to your school—friendly farm animals, hands-on learning, and big smiles!
What to Expect from our Program
-Set Up
While our program is flexible and we do our best to accommodate reasonable requests, we typically set up between 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. Weather permitting, we stage outdoors on the grass near the playground or ball field. Students are invited to sit on the ground, and then we begin the presentation.
-Meet the Animals
Once students are seated, we bring out the animals one by one, introduce each by name, and share fun, age-appropriate facts about how they’re raised and the products or services they provide on a farm.
-Hands-On Props
During the presentation, we pass a few hands-on props for students to hold—for example, when we introduce the sheep, we may share a small clump of sterilized wool. Some items may be edible or resemble food; all props are for demonstration only and will not be consumed.
-Class by Class Animal Encounters
After the 30–45 minute presentation, we transition to hands-on time. All students return to class except one grade, and we rotate grades through the mobile petting zoo in ~20-minute intervals. During their session, students may gently touch the animals and ask questions; our staff is on hand to guide interactions and answer anything that came up during the program.
-Clean Up
After hands-on time concludes, we load the animals, break down and stow all mobile enclosures, and clean the area. We make a reasonable effort to leave the school grounds tidy—free of trash and any large or visible animal waste.
-Online Catalog
Many schools cover our on-site educational visit by hosting a two-week online catalog sale, keeping the experience no-cost for students. Families access the catalog via QR code, and students compete to sell locally made items—think bread, jams/jellies, honey, granola, and goat-milk soaps/lotions. The top seller joins us as a ‘student helper’ during the program. We present the 30–45 minute mobile program on the final day of the sale and deliver all orders to the school within 5–10 business days, sorted by student. Participation requires a minimum enrollment of 150 students.
-Alternative Ways to Book Our Program
Participation in the online catalog sale requires a minimum enrollment of 150 students. Schools that opt out of the sale—or have fewer than 150 students—may book the program outright. Pricing: $10 per student for schools with 150+ students; $1,500 flat fee for schools under 150.
